DAILY DISCIPLINE #142
By Colleen Donahue
A religion that simply consists of "thou shalt nots" will never be effective at keeping us from evil. It's not enough that we merely stop sinning. The evil must be replaced with good.
In these few verses we look at what happens when evil is cast out of a man but not replaced with good.
The Danger of an Empty Mind and Heart
Studies continued from Matthew 12
Day 1- In this age evil can be banished from a man but not destroyed. It will always look for an opportunity to regain ground.
Matthew 12: 43-44 / Luke 11: 24-26
Day 2- A religion that consists of negatives - i.e. "thou shalt nots" will never be enough to keep a man clean from evil. Why?
1 Peter 5:8
Day 3- The replacement for evil activity must be healthy and good activity. It is not enough to stop reading bad books. We must read literature that fills us with truth. We can stop stealing from people but unless we start giving to people the old habit will just return. In the country of Gerasenes Jesus drove a whole herd of demons out of a man so that he was completely restored to health both in mind and body. Notice what Jesus instructed him to do.
Luke 8: 38-39
Day 4- When we become a person who has been "delivered and cleansed" we can easily enter into a false security and relief. What is more needed than ever?
1 Corinthians 10:12 / 1 Corinthians 16:13 / Colossians 4: 2
Day 5- If we become entangled again in the same sin from which we were delivered what will be the result?
2 Peter 2: 20-22
